The United Methodist Church is an 11-million-strong global church that opens hearts, opens doors and opens minds through active engagement with our world.<\/p>\n
John Wesley and the early Methodists placed primary emphasis on Christian living, on putting faith and love into action. This emphasis on what John Wesley referred to as “practical divinity” has continued to be a hallmark of United Methodism today.<\/p>\n
Here are some basics:<\/p>\n
There is but one living and true God, everlasting, without body or parts, of infinite power, wisdom, and goodness; the maker and preserver of all things, both visible and invisible. And in unity of this Godhead there are three persons, of one substance, power, and eternity\u2014the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.\u00a0 Basically, we believe in the one true, holy and living God, Eternal Spirit, who is Creator, Sovereign and Preserver of all things visible and invisible<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The Bible contains all things necessary to salvation.\u00a0 We take God\u2019s word most seriously and is the basis for our life together as a church<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
God saves us from our sin and broken relationships through God\u2019s own unwavering love for the world. This extraordinalry love was demonstrated in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.\u00a0 We are set right by God\u2019s faith and it is a most comforting doctrine. And made to share.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Sacraments ordained of Christ are the certain signs of grace, and God’s good will toward us, by which God works invisibly in us, and animates and strengthens our faith.\u00a0 Sacraments are available to all.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Everyone can respond to God\u2019s grace with right actions such as giving generously to the poor, healing the broken-hearted, caring for our neighbors, and working for peace.<\/p>\n
